Foundation for medical and special educational projects
Horizon Holland Foundation (HHF) is a Dutch non-government organization
(NGO) providing medical and special educational assistance to projects in
developing countries. It’s aim is to improve the living conditions of
the local population. To achieve this aim Horizon Holland:

   * Sends professional volunteers
   * Distributes relief goods and medication
   * Organises incidental emergency aid
   * Occasionally supports specific projects financially

Projects

Horizon Holland supports projects in Asia, Africa & Latin America.These projects differ in nature but the emphasis is on improving health care,special education and attention for (handicapped) children. The project is also supposed to be carried locally by a counterpart organisation.

Volunteers

To support the local staff, Horizon Holland sends professional volunteers with a medical, paramedical or technical background. The minimum period is six months.These volunteers have a combined assignment: to give direct support, to transfer knowledge, and to support fundraising in Europe.

Students

Only final year students who have to carry out a final thesis research, spanning a minimum of three months, provided local guidance can be organised and there is spin off for the local counterpart.

Goods

Horizon Holland distributes materials or relief goods when they become available.This concerns either medication, medical equipment, orthopaedic aids,wheelchairs or educational aids. All these goods and materials are donated or made available by private companies,
hospitals or other non-profit institutions.

Cooperation

Horizon Holland, where possible, cooperates with other organizations.
This cooperation regards joint shipment of goods, personnel assistance,
co-financing etc. HHF is a member of SVHO-Support.

Sponsoring

As an NGO Horizon Holland does not receive direct financial aid from the Dutch government and is therefore dependant of the donations from
churches, schools, public and private organizations and individuals. Most of the donations are directed to a specific project. Sponsors are encouraged
to support a particular project on a long term bases.

Staff and Secretariat

All board members, the voluntary staff, co-workers at the secretariat, associates and students perform their duties free of charge.

Continuity

In many cases it takes considerable time before a project becomes self-supporting. To ensure this much needed continuity, HHF constantly strives to widen its circle of interested sponsors.
